Events

CCMS puts on an exciting programme of concerts and events each term. For a summary of upcoming events, please see our Michaelmas termcard for 2021 above. Most recitals are at 6:00, although some may be at different times.

Most events do not require booking. The Christmas concert is an exception and tickets will be available online and on the door. Online tickets will be available here closer to the time.

Concerts

CCMS holds a concert in the Christ’s Chapel at the end of Michaelmas term, and our flagship concert is held at Great St. Mary’s Church at the end of Lent term. At each concert, Christ’s Voices and Orchestra perform, along with chamber groups. We charge a small amount for tickets, and the price includes a glass of wine or a soft drink at the interval, with mince pies at Christmas.

Recitals
CCMS also presents regular recitals in the Chapel, performed by college members as well as guest musicians. Each year our recital programme begins with a concert by CCMS committee members, followed by an opportunity for new students to perform in the Freshers’ recital. The programme continues with solo and chamber music recitals. Most recitals are free of charge.

Jazz
In conjunction with the JCR we provide entertainment for the Week 5 Blues jazz night held in the Function Room in Michaelmas and Lent. Week 5 Blues is free of charge, and drinks can be purchased at the bar.

Charles Blackham Memorial Recital Competition
In Lent term CCMS also presents the Charles Blackham Memorial Recital Competition, judged by an experienced panel including our Director of Music, David Rowland. Open to all instrumentalists and singers in the college, five finalists perform a fifteen minute recital in the Chapel. There is a prize, donated by Mrs Sally Blackham, Charles’ mother, of £200 for the winner.

Special Events
CCMS holds a Freshers’ Squash in Freshers’ Week to allow new students to meet the society. Our annual black-tie dinner is held in the OCR during Lent term, and a garden party is held during May Week.
